How to Paint on Varnish WITHOUT Sanding

How to Paint on Varnish WITHOUT Sanding

I wanted to refurbish two end tables that we had for Sienna’s room. However, they had varnish on them and I was dreading sanding them down. I did some research and came across a product that changed my life :) It is called liquid sandpaper and all you have to do is rub it on the varnish and it creates a texture so that the paint will stick to it. It is amazing and a total game changer. You can buy it at any Home Improvement store, or I linked it to Amazon below. I have probably walked passed it many times, how did I not know about this! This is what it looked like before.

I took my end table downstairs and removed the hardware. You rub on one coat, rub it in circles and use gloves. You can use a generous amount and then just wait for it to dry. It dries in about ten minutes. It says to wear goggles, but I didn’t think that was necessary. The second it dried it immediately had a tough texture so I knew the paint would adhere to it. I then used Gunsmith Gray to paint the end table and I am obsessed with the color! It went on smoothly and only required two coats. The hardware I used was smaller than the last one, so I had to fill the extra holes with wood putty, sand it and paint over them.

Here is the link to the Wood Putty I used to fill the holes.

I used square Matte Black knobs from Home Depot. It is a whole new look and no sanding required! Hope this is as much of a game changer for you as it was for me.

Cheers!
