Why It's Easier Than You Think To Smarten Up Your Home's Curb Appeal

Why It's Easier Than You Think To Smarten Up Your Home's Curb Appeal

If you think smartening up your home is a big challenge that’s going to demand all your time, then think again. While a lot of homes look distinctly “meh,” it’s easier than you might think to upgrade their appearance.

Here’s what to do and where to focus:

Paint Your Front Door

Painting your front door is probably the highest-value, lowest-effort thing you can do. If you can get the color right and make everything look new, it can totally transform the feel of the rest of your home. Suddenly, people want to approach it

Also, if you paint the door something colorful, you can start adding some personality to your neighborhood or block. Painting your front door can have quite a powerful effect.

Remove Old House Numbers And Replace With New Ones

Another thing you’ll want to do is remove your old house  numbers and replace them with new ones. This approach is so simple and yet highly effective, especially when combined with new cladding. It stops your property looking worn out and sun damaged, giving it a new lease on life.

If you can get illuminated numbers, that’s even better. These stand out at night and make everything look so much more engaging.

Power Wash Everything

You also want to power wash everything if you can. Getting the pressure water on ingrained dirt can be highly effective and something that can make a significant difference to how everything looks. Sometimes, you can’t believe the difference between before and after. It’s just astonishing.

Yes, it takes a couple of days for a technician to do it properly. But once it’s done, your home’s outside spaces will look essentially brand new.

Include Asphalt Paving

Putting down slick black asphalt paving can also be a quick and easy way to upgrade your home’s curb appeal without the usual fuss. When laid, it can have a powerful visual effect and immediately draws the eye. It also smooths out any irregularities (something that can be an issue with a lot of concrete driveways as they age).

Improve Outdoor Lighting

If your LED-backlit door number isn’t enough, you could also go the whole hog and improve your outdoor lighting in general. With this, you want to go beyond just illuminating your walkways and porch. To really make your home stand out, it can be nice to install illuminating lights around the base. These usually shine upwards at the property, making it more attractive to people passing by. It looks great at night and can even increase the value of your home when you come to sell.

Add Window Boxes And Hanging Baskets

Finally, if you’re in a suburban or heavily urban area, adding window boxes and hanging baskets can be a nice touch. These bring a sense of homeliness and domesticity to the property. They can also be a nice injection of color on estates that are little more than grey boxes. Flowers and other plants and shrubs bring a sense of life and joy.
