How To Refresh Your Home Over One Weekend (6 Steps)

How To Refresh Your Home Over One Weekend (6 Steps)

Do you have guests coming over soon, or perhaps you’re sick of the way your home looks and want to refresh things? Either way you’re looking to make your home look nicer - but you need to do it within a couple of days.

It sounds impossible, but is it? No! You can refresh your home over one weekend with the right ideas and approaches. Here’s what you should do:

Step 1: Hire a handyman

Refreshing your home across two days is virtual impossible when you’re doing it alone. That’s why your first step is to hire a local handyman to help with some of the tasks. They can get on with some of the DIY or more physical tasks while you focus on other things. Two heads always work better than one, and this will seriously speed things along so your home can look refreshed within 48 hours or less.

Step 2: Declutter the main spaces

Attempting a full home decluttering might not be the smartest choice when you’ve only got a weekend to refresh your house. This kind of job can take multiple days and leave you with no time for anything else. The thing is, you don’t need to declutter your entire house for it to look and feel better. Focus on the main spaces instead - like the key rooms or areas people will be in all the time.

E.g. If you’re hosting a dinner party, then declutter the entrance hall, living room, dining area and bathrooms. There’s no point in decluttering your bedrooms or garage because nobody will venture into them!

Step 3: Deep clean key areas

The same tactic can be applied to deep cleaning; focus on key areas that attract a lot of attention. Deep clean your carpets and floors, skirting boards and furnishings, but not areas like under your bedroom wardrobe. By deep cleaning things and areas that are always on display, you transform the way your home looks. It gives the illusion of a spotless abode that feels incredibly fresh.

Step 4: Apply a fresh lick of paint

This is a great job for your handyman to do while you’re cleaning and decluttering. Sometimes a fresh lick of paint is all you need for rooms to come back to life - especially if the current paintwork is stained, fading, or peeling away. Apply some new layers - or change the color completely - to revitalize your interior spaces. If your walls have wallpaper, then you can either remove it and put some paint down instead or use your handyman to repair and refresh the wallpaper.

Also, apply a fresh lick of paint to the exterior of your home. Don’t forget about how it looks from the outside if you want to freshen it up quickly. New paintwork on the outside immediately changes the way your house looks and gives it a true sense of “newness”.

Step 5: Rearrange some of your furniture

Did you know that rearranging your furniture is one of life’s greatest interior design hacks? Rooms will look borderline unrecognizable when certain pieces of furniture are moved to different locations. You’re used to your sofa being in the same place all the time - but what if you moved it around slightly? Change the layout of your bedroom or alter the living room arrangements to refresh them and make your house look brand new. It’s an extremely clever tactic that works even better if you’re welcoming guests who’ve been to your home before. They’ll notice that things look different, and they’ll probably ask if you’ve renovated!

Step 6: Swap out some hardware

Another great task for the handyman; swapping out hardware refers to things like:

  • Doorknobs

  • Cabinet handles

  • Light fixtures

  • Plug sockets & switches

  • Taps and shower heads

It’s all the little bits and pieces you forget about, yet swapping them for new and different versions carries a huge impact. You can almost set a new tone throughout your house by swapping the hardware out - for instance, you could go for all chrome hardware everywhere to create a very modern look. It’s another one of those things that’s not overly difficult to do, yet you feel the impact straight away.

In a perfect world, you’d have unlimited time and money to refresh your home, but that doesn’t always happen. You may find yourself in situations where you need to spruce up your property over a weekend. This post shows it can be done, so follow the five steps to help you liven up your home in as little as 48 hours.
