How to Increase the Natural Light in Your Home

How to Increase the Natural Light in Your Home

The natural light in your home can make your home feel fresh and airy. And in the summer, it can let in plenty of light, and you can enjoy those long summer evenings.

However, if you don't have the window size that you need, it might be time to check out ashevillewindowsdoors.com and see what your options are for increasing the size of your windows.

In the meantime, here are some of the best ways to increase the natural light within Your home.

Colors and tones

The colors and tones that you use in certain rooms of your home will have an impact on how bright, light, and airy they look.

We all know that using lighter colors on the walls will make a room look more extensive, and the pale toned wallpaper or paint will reflect light into the room rather than absorbing it.

This doesn't mean that you should use no color because using brilliant white paint on walls can make a room feel cold. Pastel colors and off-whites are often the way to go to create ample space.

Plants

If you can see the garden, then that's great, if not, you might want to have some plants inside your home. They bring a sort of lively element to your home, and not only are they relaxing, and plants increase your productivity, but they can also make space feel brighter, and the shiny leaves can reflect light back into the room.

Clean windows

If your windows are grimy, dirty, or perhaps the double glazing has some issues and has condensation between it, this always inhibits the amount of light that you can genuinely get within your home.

When possible, make sure that you clean your windows and doors well. This will let as much light as possible filter through into your home.

Flooring

It will be of no surprise that the flooring that you have can make a room look larger or smaller too. For example, laminate and wooden flooring, when polished and clean, can reflect the light into the room—creating a larger-looking space.

Ceramic and stone floors that have a polished finish or are a lighter color will also do the same for you. If you would prefer something soft underfoot, and a carpet is your choice, then sticking to neutral tones or lighter colors will be the way to go.

Glossy

Glossy and shiny surfaces reflect light not only back into the room and put back to each other two. This is why a common thing to use to increase natural light, and even how the size of your room looks, is a large mirror.

Lighter color schemes come out with plenty of glossy features karma will ensure that the lights can bounce around your room with ease.

It doesn't mean that you need to go for only white colors and glass items. Any pale colors or pastel tones will work,  and when used correctly, even black, gold and other darker colors will make a huge impact.

Accessories and furniture that have a little bit of a reflective surface will help diffuser light around the room. It maximizes the amount of light available and just had a simply stylish touch, too. After all, the space should be comfortable and cozy as well as light.

Artificial lighting

One of the main ways to add more light into a room color adds more light into the room. You can do this by carefully selecting artificial lighting options.

While it will not overtake the natural lighting in terms of aesthetics, it can make a huge difference. Have a walk around the rooms that you wish to infuse more light into, and look for those dark areas. These are where the natural light simply can't get to, and these would benefit from the use of artificial lighting.

The most popular LED bulb choices are soft/warm white, daylight, and bright/cool white. You will have to play around with the colors so that you can find the one that makes the most sense for your space. If you want to make something relaxing and then warm white is the way to go.

If you really want to up the brightness, then perhaps you should consider getting the natural daylight bulbs. Think about what the room is used for before you make any of these changes come up, although you can always change a bulb later if you don't like it.
