How To Deep Clean Your Home

How To Deep Clean Your Home

It’s easy to give your home a quick clean once a week or so. Get the vacuum cleaner out, dust off the bookshelves, wipe around the kitchen and the bathroom, and you might even think about cleaning the windows if you spot they’re a little grubby. Usually, though, that’s where it ends. After all, we’re busy people, and spending too much time cleaning your home when a regular light clean makes it look just fine seems a little excessive. Plus, when we do have free time we don’t necessarily want to spend it cleaning.

Yet sometimes it will be a good idea to give your home a deep clean. Not only is this good for your health, but it can make you feel better overall, and you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes to the way your property looks.

If you want to know where to start when it comes to a deep clean, read on. Once you begin, you won’t be able to stop until it’s done – and that’s a good thing.

Declutter

The very first thing you need to do before you start your deep clean is to declutter your home. There is no point in cleaning a load of items that you don’t want or like and that you intend to throw out anyway. Plus, these things will be in your way; you’ll either have to clean around them (and miss large areas that way, doing just half a job), or you’ll have to take the time to clean them, extending the many hours you’re going to have to put in anyway.

Take each room at a time and clear out the trash. Anything you no longer want or need that no one else will want can be disposed of, but if the items are still usable you might be able to sell them online or give them to charity. For the moment, put them in a box and store them away and you can deal with them later.

Check For Pests

Although it’s not such a pleasant thing to think about, the fact is we live near the kinds of creatures that might be termed ‘pests’ all the time. Whether these are bugs of some kind like cockroaches or wasps, or they’re larger like rodents, they can cause a lot of problems. They might make you sick or damage your home. Even if they’re not doing anything in particular, having them in close proximity can make some people feel uncomfortable.

When you’re clearing and cleaning your home, keep an eye out for any signs of unwanted guests. If you see something, call in a residential pest control expert to remove it before any damage occurs, or someone is hurt or becomes unwell.

Freshen Your Mattress

Something sure to be forgotten – or not contemplated at all – in the quick weekly clean is your mattress, but remember, you use this for many hours every night, so it will need to be at least freshened up once in a while. The ideal time to do it is during your deep clean.

It’s a simple task. When you take all the bedclothes off the bed to wash them, don’t put fresh ones on right away. Instead, sprinkle baking soda over the mattress and leave it for an hour before vacuuming it up with the hose attachment. If you can, turn the mattress over so you can clean the other side too, but if it’s too heavy don’t worry.

Hope this helps, I know I need to get on top of doing some of these projects, especially the declutter….yikes it is bad these days.

Cheers!

Janelle
