7 Things Every Garden Shed Should Have

7 Things Every Garden Shed Should Have

A well-designed garden shed can do wonders for your home curb appeal. And when it's clean and thoughtfully put together, it really brings structured functions to your outdoor space. Ultimately, garden sheds need to both fulfill core functions and look good. So, once you’ve sorted out the look and feel of it, it’s time to turn the structure into a practical addition to your garden space.

Here are seven things that can really make a real difference.

#1. Shelving

Without good shelving, tools just pile up, smaller items get lost, and before you know it, the space feels cramped and disorganized.

Durable shelving needs to withstand dampness and be sturdy enough for heavy equipment. Open shelving is great for tools that you use all the time, while a few stackable bins help keep everything else tidy.

#2. Electricity

Let's face it, natural lightdoesn't reach every corner of a garden shed. Good lighting makes the space much safer and easier to use all year round.

An overhead light that's connected to your house is usually enough.

You'll be less likely to have accidents and spend less time searching for tools. Plus, it gives you the freedom to tackle smaller projects without bringing everything back into the house.

#3. Lawn Equipment

Lawn mowers need to be protected from the elements, so storing them in your shed is a must. It helps prevent rust, sun damage, and other wear and tear that can make them look older than they are.

Similarly, you need a designated space for all mower add-ons. For electrical devices, you can keep your extension cords and/or battery charger alongside. You can also make room for fuel containers if your mower needs fuel.

When your lawn mowers have a clear spot, it makes it a lot easier to maintain the garden.

#4. Manual Gardening Tools

Every gardener relies on a few trusty hand tools that need to be safely stored and easy to retrieve:

  • A spade for digging

  • A trowel for planting

  • Pruning shears for trimming

  • A sturdy fork for turning over the soil

These tools benefit from being mounted on a wall hook or a side rack that keeps the blades protected and the handles easy to grab.

#5. Secure Storage for Chemicals

If you use fertilizers, pesticides, and insect control products, it’s important to keep them stored safely. Ideally, a lockable cabinet in your shed can keep them out of reach of kids or pets.

#6. Organized Watering Supplies

Hoses and watering cans can quickly get damaged or lost if you don't have an organized place to put them.

Additionally, if you are using an electric irrigation system, the garden shed is the perfect spot to keep the control unit.

#7. Space for Garden Furniture

Garden furniture, such as cushions, benches, and smaller decorative items, needs protection as the weather gets colder. If you are in the process of building a shed, it should have enough space to hold seasonal furniture.

Besides, proper storage helps extend the life of your outdoor gear and keeps your garden looking tidy all year round

When you've got a thoughtfully equipped shed, it's amazing how much easier it is to get on with gardening and lawn care.
