Why “Clean” Doesn’t Always Mean Healthy at Home
You know that smug little high you get after cleaning the house? Like, the counters sparkling, laundry folded, candle burning like you’re in a lifestyle ad. Basically, everything looks and feels amazing, and yeah, for about five minutes, it feels like you’ve nailed adulthood. But here’s a question, does your home actually feel safe and healthy? Is it actually safe and healthy to begin with?
Well, believe it or not, but just because the place looks spotless doesn’t mean it’s actually healthy. No, really, you read that right. Actually, a lot of the stuff that messes with your air, your allergies, and your sinuses isn’t hanging out where you can see it. So, chances are, every though your home might look clean, there might be a chance it still isn’t entirely clean (or healthy).
Dust is Basically Everywhere
Yeah, needless to say, dust is the worst. You wipe it off, it comes back. You vacuum, it laughs in your face and floats right back down. It’s miserable, right? Like, no matter what, it’s just everywhere, it’s on the coffee table, ceiling fan, stuffed inside vents, and clinging to every electronic you own. Oh, and to make matters worse (and gross), it’s not just fluff either. It’s skin cells, pollen, pet dander, and all kinds of microscopic grossness. So while your kitchen counter might look pristine, your lungs probably aren’t
There’s the Dirt You Don’t See in Your Ducts
Here’s the one that really gets ignored: your air system. Ideally, one to two times per year, you should clean your ducts, but most people tend not to bother with that. But all that junk, that dust and allergens that float around your house, will eventually get sucked into your ducts.
And then blasted through the house every time the heat or AC kicks on. It’s basically dust and allergens on repeat. Not ideal, right? So if you don’t clean it yourself (which is way easier said than done), then you’re better off looking into home duct cleaning services so it can get done. While sure, none of this is glamorous in the slightest, it does help a lot, and it can make the air in your home feel fresh.
Allergens Tend to Hide in Weird Places
Oh yeah, this is by far a major one. So, you think your place is spotless until you remember carpets exist, or curtains. Or, brace yourself, your mattress. Those spots are allergen traps, hoarding pollen, dust mites, and who knows what else. You can’t see it, but you’ll feel it when you wake up stuffy or when your eyes itch out of nowhere.
How About Toxins?
While this one might sound a bit weird, just bear with it, please. So, there are cleaning products that leave behind chemicals (as most are made with harsh chemicals), a lack of ventilation from the stove, paint releasing gases, and even furniture doing similar things are all hidden problems a lot of people don’t understand or realize.
The air quality could quite literally be bad in your home without you even knowing. It’s usually recommended to use vinegar for cleaning, and using an air purifier can help a bit, too.
