How to Prepare Your Home for a Dog

How to Prepare Your Home for a Dog

Congratulations - you have a new member of the family, one that is furry and doesn’t always speak your language. Introducing a new dog into your apartment is an existing time, but you need to make sure you have it set up for success, read on and ensure you cover all the basics.

Buy Cleaning Products

If it’s a new dog, the chances are they are not house trained yet - so ensure you have plenty of newspapers and cleaning products to avoid any accidents. Until your dog is trained to let you know when they need to go to the park or outdoor space for the toilet, you can expect accidents.

Equipment you might need for a new dog includes a poop scoop, baggies, and disinfectant. To train your new pup, take them to the same place and at the same time every day; also, use commands and calls to encourage or dissuade them. Reward them when you go to the park.

Organize a Sleeping Space

Unless your dog has a dedicated space to sleep in, they won’t feel comfortable and happy in your apartments, so it’s very important for you to create a sleeping space that feels like home. Choose a comfortable bed that’s the right size for your pet and put it in a cozy space at home.

As well as a sleeping space, you can also create dog-friendly spaces around the apartment. Dogs love cushions and toys - especially young dogs with lots of energy! Remember that if your dog loves to chew things, make sure the cushions are non-toxic and the toys are suitable.

Organize an Eating Space

For your dog to feel comfortable and happy in the home, they need to know where things are and what belongs to them. Dogs are very territorial, so if you can give them dedicated spaces and resources, it will help them settle in more quickly and feel less stressed in the short term.

Eating space is an important part of this arrangement. If you have dedicated sleeping space and eating space for your new pet, they will feel happy and secure from the start. This also helps with training them because it allows you to concentrate on toilet training and behavior training.

Buy Quality Food

When it comes to feeding your dog, you have several options, but it’s worth giving some thought to because better quality dog food can improve your dog’s health and improve their life expectancy. Dog food from the supermarket contains lots of sugar and additives that don’t help.

Sure, supermarket dog food is suitable on the odd occasion when you run out of food unexpectedly, but if you have them on a diet of low-quality food, it will affect their health, energy, and life quality. So don’t be afraid to buy high-quality dog food online and have it delivered.

Organize an Outdoor Space

It can be a challenge to find an outdoor space for your dog when you live in an inner-city apartment, but if you can, it’s a good idea to locate some green space nearby or make the most of the shared outdoor space in your apartment block. Dogs need regular fresh air and exercise
