How To Make Homemade Hummingbird Nectar
Homemade hummingbird nectar is so easy to make! A lot of people don’t realize it is just two simple ingredients, water and sugar, that is it! So when we got our cactus top-fill feeder from Perky-Pet feeders I immediately got to work making some. Here is the simple process:
1.) It is a 4:1 ratio, so you get four cups of water and one cup of granulated white sugar. Never use brown sugar, raw sugar, or organic sugar which contain iron.”
2.) I used tap water, so I made sure to boil it first.
3.) Once boiled, I added my sugar and stirred. Once again, four cups of water, one cup of granulated sugar.
4.) Make sure you let your water cool before adding it to the Perky-Pet Hummingbird Feeder. I love that they have top-fill feeders, it makes it so easy to clean, and to add nectar to.
That is it! There is nothing else to it, I have even made extra nectar and stored it. Since the hummingbirds go through it so quickly it is nice to always have on hand.
On the note of hummingbirds, I wanted to talk about Perky-Pets new handheld hummingbird feeder that they are selling. It is a fun way to bring nature as close as possible, and can also be used for a tabletop feeder. It was so affordable too! Additionally, we have their flower replacement ports. These are wonderful because every time we take the feeder down to clean it, we replace the flowers, and clean the old ones and store them. This way they are ready for next time if you choose to change them out again. If you know me, you know I like mixing things up, so this is a fun way to do that, accessorize with different types of flowers for the feeder. Is homemade hummingbird nectar something you are willing to try? They just got a some new top-fill feeders and I have my eye on a couple that would be a great addition to the garden. I linked some of my favorites below, so tell me, which is your favorite? I can’t choose!
